  • End of semester

Only five education lectures left until the semester is over.  Or to put it another way, only eight full days of class left until finals week.

Even better, only five days until I see my amazing girlfriend!!

But I am enjoying these last days of class and finishing up lab reports and research papers.  And reading about the coming massive worldwide shortage of food.  Its pretty scary.

I don't really have anything else to write about.  My life for the past few weeks has largely been composed of homework and studying.

  • About A Burning Fire

Just put your iPod (or Windows media player, in my case) on shuffle and answer these questions with the songs that come up (no cheating)

IF SOMEONE SAYS "IS THIS OKAY" YOU SAY?
Suicide Baby (House of Heroes) - I must be pretty violent :)

WHAT WOULD BEST DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY?
Redemption (Switchfoot) -  What I hope is one of the grand themes of my life...one of the the most important ideas ever.  But I don't think it describes my personality.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE IN A GUY/GIRL?
Teresa (Citizen Cope) - No, I don't actually like the name Teresa.  So this one doesn't really make sense either.

    HOW DO YOU FEEL TODAY?
Cadence (Anberlin) - I wish that was how I was feeling today :).  It is an in-love song, so it makes some sense.

    WHAT IS YOUR LIFE'S PURPOSE?
Molotov (Project 86) - "dance all night and sleep all day"...not really my life's purpose.

    WHAT IS YOUR MOTTO?
Concerning the UFO Sighting Near Highland, Illinois (Sufjan Stevens) Maybe I'm just interested in extra-terrestrials.

WHAT DO YOUR FRIENDS THINK OF YOU?
Saviour (Skillet) - Wow I didn't know people thought that highly of me.  I might be considered a saviour to someone who needs help with Physics :).

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOUR PARENTS?
Picture (MuteMath) - Doesn't really make sense.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT VERY OFTEN?
When It Rains (Paramore) - I do like rain, but I don't really think about it when its not happening.

    WHAT IS 2+2?
Rise Up (Disciple) - classic headbanger that brings back memories for me but doesn't really answer the question.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOUR BEST FRIEND?
Beheaded (Demon Hunter) - Ouch.  I hope people still like me after this :).

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE PERSON YOU LIKE?
Province (TV on the Radio) - wow...awesome lyrics - I have to quote them (sorry for taking up so much space). This one pretty much fits.

    Suddenly, all your history's ablaze
Try to breath, as the world disintegrates
Just like autumn leaves, we're in for change
    Holding tenderly to what remains
And all your memories, are as precious as gold
And all the honey, and the fire which you stole
Have you running through all your red-cheeked days
Shaking loose these souls, from their sacred hiding space

    Hold your heart courageously
as we walk into this dark place
    Stand, steadfast erect and see
that love is the province of the brave

Pushed under this expanse of bursting stars
Let this burning brightly illuminate the where we are
In this hollow that lovers' voices occupy
Let it follow that we let it free, let it fly

Breaking open the walls of this cage
    Intoxicated, oh so amazed
Much like falcons tumbling from the heights at play
    Conjoined, talons engaged

    Hold these hearts courageously
as we walk into this dark place
Stand, steadfast beside me and see
that love is the province of the brave

    WHAT IS YOUR LIFE STORY?
Flood (Jars of Clay) - "lift me up (when I'm falling) lift me up (weak and dying) lift me up (I need you to hold me)"

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GROW UP?
Party Song (Emery) - This is so inaccurate.

WHAT DO YOU THINK WHEN YOU SEE THE PERSON YOU LIKE?
Come and Rain Down (After Edmund) - I do think of After Edmund and rain when I see the person I like (that is, if I manage to think of anything at all :). "in the darkest room, there's a light on for you"

WHAT DO YOUR PARENTS THINK OF YOU?
The Corporate Enthusiast (dead poetic) - hmmm...I think they know I'm not enthusiastic about corporations.

WHAT WILL YOU DANCE TO AT YOUR WEDDING?
Change the World (Eric Clapton) - Actually more of a formal dance song than most of my music. I can see the dim lights and dance floor as I listen to it...(wishful thinking).

WHAT WILL THEY PLAY AT YOUR FUNERAL?
Stranded (Plumb) - Not exactly funeral music.

    WHAT IS YOUR HOBBY/INTEREST?
The Sharpest Lives (My Chemical Romance) - "in love with all of these vampires"

    WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST SECRET?
Liarsenic (Norma Jean) - Yeah.  I lie to people and then poison them with arsenic.

WHAT'S THE WORST THING THAT COULD HAPPEN?
The Silent Men (Dream Theater) - Hmmm...silence?  That would be really bad.

    HOW WILL YOU DIE?
Its Alright (After Edmund) - Well I least I know everything will be alright no matter how I die.

WHAT IS THE ONE THING YOU REGRET?
The Red Death (Thrice) - hmmm...not sure about this one.

    WHAT MAKES YOU LAUGH?
Digging My Own Grave (Thrice) - I'm not this morbid. Really.

    WHAT MAKES YOU CRY?
There's Only Forgiveness (John Rueben) - forgiveness is something to have tears of joy over.  And some hip hop does about make me cry.  I guess this is indie hip hop so maybe that explains why I am in possession of it.

    WILL YOU EVER GET MARRIED?
Vulture (Showbread) - ummm....doesn't bode well.

    WHAT SCARES YOU THE MOST?
Wizards in Winter (Trans-Siberian Orchestra) - I love the song.  But I guess some wizards are scary.

    DOES ANYONE LIKE YOU?
Love Song (Anberlin) - I did not cheat on this one.  Wow.... :)

IF YOU COULD GO BACK IN TIME, WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE?
Come on! Feel the Illinoise! (Sufjan Stevens) - maybe this means I would be more enthusiastic about some things.

    WHAT HURTS RIGHT NOW?
Too Bright to See, Too Loud to Hear (Underoath) - bright lights?  the obvious?  not sure about this one.

WHAT WILL YOU POST THIS AS?
About a Burning Fire (Blindside) - definitely a fun song :)

    Brain damage and wedding gifts

I read something today stating that humans who behave purely rationally are brain-damaged.

Buying someone a wedding gift is really hard.  Even if they have a registry which lists what seems like thousands of potential gifts.  The problem is I either couldn't find or didn't want to buy anything on the registry.  Do I really want to get someone an "handy kitchen chopper" for their wedding?  Or a set of forks?  So I wandered around the store for a long time trying to think of a gift to buy.  I met approximately fourteen brain-damaged individuals while I was doing so.  In order to prove that I was one of the crowd and brain-damaged as well (I didn't want them to attack me because they thought I was different), I bought a rational wedding gift.  In other words, a gift that made sense and was appropriate to give a couple on the occasion of their wedding.

I'm reading a book called The End of Food.  Its very terrifying.  I'm not sure when I will eat a hamburger again.  Though I'm going out to eat Chinese tomorrow.  Maybe I should just eat the oysters, because all the meat in a oyster comes from the same organism, not fifty different ones from all over America.  And I'm scared I'm going to get food poisoning from the salad that I ate for lunch today.

Seriously though, when I read books like that its very hard for me to actually change my habits even though I'm fairly certain that what I read is true and probably should make me change some habits.  At the very least, I shouldn't consume so many artifical colorings and flavorings.  Maybe someday I will actually change...

I'm off to call my girlfriend and then go to sleep and dream of Gaussian spheres.

This election is approaching too fast.  The thought suddenly dawned upon me today that in a few weeks, either Obama or McCain is actually going to be the next president of our country.  That is a scary thought.  Maybe I should move to Afghanistan and get a job as a weapons dealer or something cool like that.
I have physics class in a few minutes.  Today is a rare day in that I don't have a headache or a really bad sore throat.  Maybe I am actually beginning recovery from my long sickness.  I've been sick about as long as I can remember (yes, I have a really short memory :).  But it would feel really good to actually feel normal again.
I have a ton of chemistry equations to write using ChemDraw at some point.  But not tonight, because tonight I have praise band practice and then praise band actually playing and then I have to finish an education assessment which is due tomorrow and about which I will refrain from further comment because I don't have anything nice to say about it.
Nelson is getting married in less than two weeks and I'm going to the wedding.  Its hard to believe that he's actually tying the knot.  I wonder...nope that's not xanga-appropriate.
I think Cities is a better album than New Surrender.  At least it has more good songs on it than does New Surrender.  Unless you think sappy nostalgic songs are good.
